Malware Attack
Posted by admin | Filed under Technology, Virus
I just got a warning from Firefox, Google, and Godaddy that one of my website, driftingdaddies.com was attacked by Malware…
I wasn’t sure why my site had to be attacked since I haven’t done any outstanding activities on this site lately… except one thing I can think of… I was using this ftp account for some another client and letting them have one particular folder access the other day. I think that is why this happened… I mean I don’t think my client did something to my server, but just because some other IP address/ access got to my server, Google/my FTP server kind of got skeptical about this activity even though I gave a permission through my hosting company literary.
According to Google Webmaster Tool, Malware is: “Malware is a type of software that attempts to steal your personal information or use your computer to do things that you do not intend. Malware pages are web pages containing malicious code that could be downloaded and installed on your computer without your consent. You can learn more about harmful web content including viruses and other malicious software and how to protect your computer at StopBadware.org.”
More detail at Google Webmaster Tool page >>
So this is what you need to do IF your website get attacked by Malware…
1 – Check thoroughly entire your site if you don’t see any suspicious code that you are not familiar with.
2 – Go to StopBadware.org. This site can evaluate your website if it is really infected by Malware. http://www.stopbadware.org/home/reportsearch
3 – You will see either red flag, yellow flag, or white flag. Red = your site is recognized by this site it is infected. Yellow = Their partner sites reported that your website is infected but the StopBadware.org is not recognized it yet. White = it is not currently being reported to StopBadware as bad. http://www.stopbadware.org/home/clearinghouse
4 – If your website is totally cleaned up, go to Google Webmaster Tool page > www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
5 – If you are webmaster (I think only the webmaster can solve this problem with Google…), click the website account which is infected or seems to be infected by Malware.
6 – You will see Red bar which says “This site may be distributing malware. More Details”. Click the link: “More Detail”
7 – At this page, you can request the review to Google to make thing clear and hopefully they will take the Virus Warning sign out from your website. And wait for at the most, 24 hours.
8 – As you receive some review from Google, it will tell you if your site has hosted by Malware or not.
9 – If your site still says it is infected by the virus, you should go to: http://badwarebusters.org/.
The volunteers will take a look at your site, and they will point out if they see anything suspicious. Most likely they will tell you to go to Google Webmaster Tool page though…
But it still helps since you will see all sorts of similar problem what other people have and you might find some solution for yourself from there.
Good luck whoever got this virus… I was pretty nervous since this site was for my client… but fortunately I solved it.. phew….

It automatically copies to your clipboard. That’s it! Easy, right? ♥♦♠♣ ☃
